Avisa In Sanskrit “AVISA” means not the poison. It means AMRUTHA (Sweet Nectar or joy). This AVISA trust distributes sweet nectar to the needy people of the society. In Sanskrit VISA means poison (sorrows). In Hindu mythology lord Shiva consumed poison (visa) which comes during samudra manthana- i.e. churving of the ocean. To save the world from evil effects of the poison, lord Shiva consumed visa and became Visakanta. Likewise we the trustees wanth to give and share the joy (AVISA). We treated the footsteps of mother (saint) Theresa and Florence nightingale service is our first Moto or priority then comes charity and humanity. Hence farther our moto is service, charity and humanity. Sanskrit meaning of the word AVISA is endless (Anantha), Ocean- sagara, Sky, King and Life giving. In Hebrew language AVISA means “Gift from the god”. Likewise our service will be endless like sky and ocean. Likewise this AVISA trust is an valuable gift to the society or needy people or beneficiaries from the trustees.
On the premise of the ideology “Healthy Village leads to Healthy India” AVISA has taken up the onus of reaching out hygienic sanitary napkins to villagers in association with the philanthropist, Mr.Arunachalam, acclaimed for his pioneering similar effort in Tamilnadu.
Since times immemorial, in a patriarchal society such as ours, women have only been portrayed as second fiddle in terms of receiving civilised benefits such as health, education and occupation.Shamelessly men have been either mute spectators or contributors to this injustice, we at AVISA, men of not such attitude of bias or discrimination against the fairer sex, have risen to the occasion to iron out this malady. The first question is: are today’s rural women healthy and accessible to hygienic living ?
Statistics have revealed that despite the mask of modernity that the country wears, 97% of the Indian women are still exposed to unhygienic, hazardous and, at times, fatal practice of usage of traditional absorbants like ash, sand, scrap cloth and the list is only endless. It is, indeed, deeply unfortunate that these women are plainly ignorant of the risk that they can run into with such unscientific ways of sanitising themselves during the menstrual days; media have brought to the fore cases of uterus tube cancer, nervous disorder and such grievous ailments arising out of this outdated and unhealthy practices. Some of the causes why rural women resort to traditional practice rather than using the hygienic sanitary napkins are:
A decade ago an unassuming man from the region of Coimbatore in South Tamilnadu was the centre of ridicule, threat and assault. He received this ignoble treatment for his concern and care towards a better life for his fellow rural women. This man bearing the name Arunachalam approached the wary, skeptical villagers with his novel creation: the sanitary napkin. From being a victim of rejection and apprehension, he is now hailed the messiah of female hygiene in Tamilnadu. His sanitary napkins are tailor-made for an average village woman that is cost-effective and in quality at par with the best of international brands.
AVISA believes in lending shoulders and hands of togetherness to the unique social service that Mr.Arunachalam has set out on. A mission of this magnitude takes a stupendous effort to translate from wishful thinking to hardcore action. It is our humble call to every society-conscious individual reading this appeal at the moment to chip in with your contribution: ideologically, morally, financially and in anyway that serves the needy rural woman.
